About Charles Perrault

Born: 12th January, 1968 in Paris, France

Died: 16th May, 1703 in Paris, France

Career/s: He began as a Lawyer but by 1660, Perrault had given himself a good reputaion for his poetry. Then in 1671 he began work at the Académie Française. Here he played a big part in a literacy controversy known as the dispute between the Ancients and Moderns. 

 

His Stories: Perrault would be told Fairy Tales by Story Tellers and then put his own magical twist on them. His collection of Fairy Tales that he rewrote are now best known as Mother Goose Fairy Stories. Some stories in this collection included Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Puss in Boots.  While he originally rewrote these fairy tales for his children, they have been enjoyed for hundreds of years across the world.
